Say “Hi” to the high-waist
It is my strong belief that the high-waist style has been wrongly maligned. Case in point: while shopping with a friend one day, I reached for a pair of high-waisted harem pants. Seconds later, they were on the floor because she had promptly slapped them from my hands. “Please tell me you weren’t really interested in those.” I recall her saying, her face contorted with disgust. Well why not? I thought. Why can’t high-waist styles be fashionable? She must have known what I was thinking because she quickly rattled off a list of people who, in her eyes, had decisively destroyed any chance of the high-waist ever being in fashion. Of course, Steve Urkel was first on her list. At that moment, I made it my life’s mission to prove her wrong. Not only was I going to prove her wrong, but I would convert her.

Friend: Not really high-waist. More of an at-waist. You’d need to hike these up another ten inches for it to count.
Me: Ten inches! I don’t have enough torso surface area for that!

Friend: I like this. A lot.
Me: Ha! I converted you!
Friend: Maybe…
Me: A maybe is good enough for me!
