Born This Way

Posted on 25 January 2012 by cali_editorinchief

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, But I am a HUGE Lady Gaga fan. I love her sense of style, I love her music. I love what she stands for and what she represents. What she wants to change. But the biggest reason I love her is, that she is so her. She is so true to who she is. And I think it’s brilliant.

Most “stylist’s” would tell me not to wear nude around the biggest part of my body, they would tell me to wear black and not draw attention to it. But I’m doing it anyway and it looks amazing. I feel amazing. I love this skirt/dress from SUPRE’, I’ve never owned a nude skirt before, but I’ve been really feeling lighter colours lately. So I was super excited for this, it also doubles as a dress and looks really fabulous both ways. It’s a very peachy nude, which is great for my skin tone, its not too pale at all! It retails for $35.00, if your near a SUPRE’ I suggest getting into store quick snap, I grabbed the last XL’s from my local store.

I picked it up in this nude shade, bright cobalt blue and classic black. I think the nude and black are the most versatile colours, but the blue is a really beautiful shade for Summer, and even winter with some black tights underneath.

Also how amazing are these massive, twirly hoop earrings from Diva? I’ve never been into “gold” coloured jewellery, but I think since re-watching a few Sex and The City eps, and seeing how Carrie rocks the gold bling bling, I kinda fell in love when I saw these. But they really are massive in size, luckily they are light weight.

So remember that you are beautiful, dress how ever you like, love yourself and you never have to worry about a thing, because if you follow those rules everything else falls into place. Since I started blogging the biggest rule I’ve learned is to not worry about the people who have something bad to say about you, that usually means your doing something right. <3

Pleated Bliss

Posted on 24 January 2012 by cali_editorinchief

So if you’re friends with me on Facebook your already aware of this amazing shoes I bought (when I say “I”, I mean my nan :) ) from Solestruck. They are by Jeffrey Campbell and called the “Audrey Twos”. Safe to say, I adore them. They were a Christmas present from my Grandmother, but I forgot to take a photo of them to put in my Christmas Message post, They arrived just before Christmas Eve, almost as if Santa brought them early on his sleigh!

I’ve never really been into pointed toe shoes, in fact I usually hate them. But when I saw these I thought wow, amazing. And then I saw an “on the foot” photo on Nasty Gal and I knew I have to have these!  And the look amaze on! I love the way they make my feet look! And I am very much into pointed toe shoes now, I adore them! I have been converted, AMEN!

Even though I’m wearing all black and my leather skirt, I still wanted the shoes to stand out. And I think because of their beige colour against the black they really do pop a little.

They also make me insanely tall, but I really don’t care. I really, really don’t care because these shoes make me feel insanely sexy. Even if no one else thinks so, I feel that way!

And if you couldn’t tell, I missed my fringe a little tooooo much. Christmas morning I was cutting it back in! I don’t think Paul (my hair dresser) is going to be at all surprised :)

Splendid Fairy Tale

Speaking of Luxury, Here it is. I mentioned this all the way back in my November purchases and it finally arrived this morning! I bought this amazing tea length tulle skirt from an amazing Etsy Seller, OUMA.

This is another custom made piece, I’m really like the idea of having things made perfectly for ones body, it means you don’t have to make do with things that almost fit perfectly. Having something custom made leave no room for errors, it results in the pieces fitting you perfectly. Continue Reading

Six Take: Santa Baby…..

Posted on 07 December 2011 by Publisher

By Jessie Dee http://www.toomanysequins.blogspot.com/

Tulle Dress (US22) – ASOS Curve
Black Peep Toe Pumps (11) – Emerson for Big W
Earrings – Colette
“Glenda” Ring – Gifted by Glitterrings
Pink Envelope Clutch – Colette

Firstly, Is it too early to say Merry Christmas? It might be…So I’ll just stick to Happy Holidays! This month Six Take was all about Christmas/Holiday Party Wear. This dress from Asos Curve I have been sitting on for a little while. When I received it from Asos it was actually coming undone near the bust. Asos being the amazing brand they are refunded it straight away and told me to either destroy it or recycle it. So I kept it in the hopes that I would be able to fix it, as I truly adored it.

So in the last two weeks when I got my sewing machine I pulled it out and really thought about how I might fix it, with advice from my grandmother I was able to fix it up, and lucky the fit around the bust stayed the same.

It’s a very full dress, but that’s the tulle. I love the sheer pink at the top of the dress and the tulle is a really soft bridal tulle. It’s a lovely length too, very lady like.

I tried to do a 1960′s vibe mini beehive hair style, just to change it up a bit. I was reading a British magazine yesterday, with Miss. Chung on the cover and inside her hair was done this way. I of course had to try it. I like how it turned out. I even went a bit more full on with my make up, and even used mascara on my bottoms lashes to really get the 60′s vibe.

I got these shoes at Big W. It was luck and fate that brought us together, the last pair in an 11 and only $29.98. They are the most lovely pair of shoes I own (Thats not true, all the shoes I own are lovely, but you know what I mean?), they are crazy, insane comfy. I can wear them all day and they feel just like flats. I can see these travelling the world with me!

I think this is a perfect outfit for any holiday parties that are coming up in this very busy month of December.

Until Next Time xox <3

OOTD: All Wrapped Up In Love

Posted on 22 November 2011 by Publisher

By Jessie Dee http://www.toomanysequins.blogspot.com/

So one of my good friends became engaged a few months ago, and today was her bridal shower! I am so excited and she will make a beautiful bride! So apart from taking her a lovely gift I also took some flowers to her, but before I scooted off to the party, I thought I would take some outfit photos at home and show off the flowers in some of the shots as well!

Dipped Hem Maxi (4) – Torrid
Satin Tie Belt – Off an Asos Dress
Envelope Clutch – Colette
Ring – Colette
Pink Wedges (12) – Torrid
Purple Flower – Diva (I think)

In the last few weeks I’ve become really obsessed with everything girlie. Especially the colour pink. I used to hate pink, but as time has passed by I adore it. I love this dress from Torrid, but even with the interesting hem I always felt it was a little plain. But on a whim, pure whim, I tied this ribbon belt (from a different dress) around my waist and I have to say this would now be in my top 5 dresses! I felt so chic, beautiful and girlie in it! Especially with the pink ribbon!

After I tied this sash around my waist, the rest of the accessories were easy peasy. Luckily the night before I had painted my nails almost the exact same shade of pink! I used “Teddy Girl” from Butter London, its adorbs. And then everything else was varying shades of pink. Except for the flower in my hair, so it all worked out rather well for me :)

It’s not a bad idea though, Adding ribbon as a belt. Sometimes you don’t need a full on belt, but just something to make it different. I will be wearing this pink ribbon all the time on this dress from now on! I love how it looks, so simple but very effective!

And just for you, a close up of my ring and polish…

OOTN: Neopolitan Dreams

Posted on 07 November 2011 by Publisher

By: Jessica Dee http://www.toomanysequins.blogspot.com/

So today, after sorting out Australia Post (if you’re on my Facebook page you know what I’m on about), I finally got my hands on my Asos Order. One item was hit and miss and the other well I think the sizing runs really, really, really small. It was the Asos Rainbow Jacquard Midi Skirt.

I have spoken to the peeps at Asos and they have told me that each item fits differently, which is understandable – but when compared to the Blue Brocade Midi Skirt from Asos, it is a good two inches smaller. This is the first time I have had any issues with fit from Asos.

I do always expect some difference, because certain items and brands fit body shapes differently. But two inches, in a similar item, which is the same size – is a huge difference, so keep that in mind when ordering this skirt. Luckily enough before I took it off I showed my grandmother (mostly to point out that it wouldn’t fit around my waist) but before I even got a word out she said “WOW – that is a BEAUTIFUL dress!” and I thought, that’s not a bad idea. She had no idea that it was a skirt, she totally thought it was a dress from the get go.

Little Sequin Jacket (2) – Torrid
Jacquard Skirt, now a Dress (US22) – Asos Curve
Glitter Pumps (12) – Gifted By Torrid
Rings – Torrid and Colette
Apple Earring Studs – Diva
Unicorn Necklace – Peaches Geldof for MADE

I had planned to take these outfit photos somewhere else (who else is sick of my home as my backdrop?) but after I got dressed to head out a HUGE thunder storm started and I honestly could not get out my car. When I got home my back patio was pretty much flooded – and well I will just have to save the new back drop for another day!

See – It’s way more amazing as a dress than a skirt. So Asos – start selling this as a dress. Even though its pleated I think it’s very slimming and elongating to the body. It feels like a real party dress! It’s a beautiful material as well, lovely for Summer – It’s very breathable. It really does fall perfectly as a dress. Sometimes things that were meant for one use turn out to be fabulous as another use – Don’t write something off completely just because it doesn’t fit the way its “meant” too – being a curvette you have to be a little creative when things don’t fit perfectly right away, some times it works out for the best!

Now because the dress is so glittery and metallic what better to do then add some black sequins and pink glittery shoes. I adore these shoes that Torrid sent to me. They glitter so beautifully when the light hits them in just the right way.  Of course this little jacket is Torrid also – It’s just the right length with the dress and I felt with all of it combined that I sparkled from head to tow – kind of like a Christmas tree!

This outfit was totally fun – and I promise a new, pretty back drop for my next post!

What do you think? What items have you had to wear a bit differently because they didn’t work out right?

OOTD: Festival Ready

Posted on 03 November 2011 by Publisher

By: Jessica Dee http://www.toomanysequins.blogspot.com/

This to me is the perfect festival outfit, only maybe I would change the shoes to something I wouldn’t be worried about getting mud and dirt on! Maybe just a cheap pair of flats.

Floral “Peasant” Dress (US4) – Torrid
Black Patent Leather Flatforms (11) – Target

As soon as I saw this on the Torrid model I thought it was stunning (as was the model) and I really loved the laid back vibe it gave. After I ordered it, I really hoped the the belt fit – I’ve been unlucky lately with belts that have come with dresses not fitting, but this one fit beautifully, I can even tuck the end bit in – so expect to see this belt on other dresses as well!

This really would be a perfect dress for a festival, especially here in Australia as its very cool for during the Summer. It has big, beautiful flouncy sleeves that just sit beautifully. It has an elastic waist which just helps the dress fall perfectly. Its a nice length too, I’m 5’11 and this falls just above my knees.

I feel so crazy pretty in this dress. I think its because it feels so floaty.. It’s beautiful to wear! I had to take something back to target the other day, and after I picked up those other amazing shoes on sale, I had a quick peek to see if they had anything new. Nothing new but they had a black version of the beige ones that I got the other day. I would have bought them all together but they didn’t have the 11, but when I went back in, they did! Lucky me! :)

So there you go, my third amazing dress from Torrid! Do you think I picked good pieces so far? I cannot wait to show you the last dress! :)

Until Next Time xox <3

OOTD: Toe Caps

Posted on 21 October 2011 by Publisher

By: Jessica Dee…http://www.toomanysequins.blogspot.com/

When these shoes showed up on Torrid, I ordered them straight away. I’m so glad I did because this colour is now sold out! I can totally understand why!

Ruffle Bolero (XL) – City Chic / Printed Singlet (XL) – City Chic
Berry Midi Skirt (US22) – Asos Curve / Mimi Cap Toe Wedges (11) – Torrid
Red Velvet Headband – Target

Cute huh? I think so. I love how they look with my ASOS midi skirt, and I’m pretty sure they will look amaze with anything I wear them with. Torrid shoes (and I know I say this all the time) are amazing! They do have these in a grey and black version, but I think the beige and black is such a classic combination!

This singlet from City Chic is years old. I found it while unpacking some boxes and I thought it was cute. It have purple inside the diamond pattern, which I think works with the purple of the skirt. I think Asos need to bring out a whole new bunch of these midi skirts. In prints and in different lengths. Then i would be the happiest chappie around!

SO  not the most exciting outfit but.. I really just wanted to show you my shoes! :)

Until Next Time xox <3

The Kaftan Kutie

Posted on 11 October 2011 by Jessica Dee

The Kaftan Kutie- by Jessica Dee of  www.toomanysequins.blogspot.com
Hey Dolls!

I am so excited to be doing writing this, my first ever post for SKORCH Magazine! I thought I’d give you a little bit of an about me! I’m Jessica Dee and I run the blog Too Many Sequins.

I only started blogging a few months back. I was looking for a way to express myself, But what I have gotten in return has been so much more than I ever expected! The love and support that I have been given has been mind blowingly crazy!
I’m from the land down under, Australia – Home of great beaches and cute boys (think Hugh Jackman!)! So I thought it only fitting that my first SKORCH post featured one of my favourite Australian Designers – Camilla.
Camilla is known for her Kaftans, bright prints and easy, chic style. Coming into summer here this dress is going to get quite a workout! It’s so easy to wear and looks great on any body shape! That’s another thing I adore about Camilla’s designs.. she has no “sizes” – she just has great designs that are accesible to ALL woman. Even Oprah has worn her designs… so that’s really saying something!
Check out her website here… www.camilla.com.au! Also I have a slight addiction to Torrid shoes.. they are amazing!

Outfit Deets: Dress – Camilla and Shoes are Torrid……..
Anywho… I hope you enjoyed what is the first of what is hopefully going to be a lot of posts for SKORCH! Please keep a look out for future posts by me on here and also check out www.toomanysequins.blogspot.com – if you’d like to find out more about me!
