First of all let me just start off by saying, “Happy Mother’s Day” to all of the wonderful Moms and Moms-To-Be out there. Although I have been slaving over the stove all day cooking, I took a moment out to get dressed and take a few pics for you all. Now I hadn’t really planned on getting fixed up today but since I was having all of the women in my family over for dinner today I figured that I better look the hostess part. I’m wearing the newly released Coral Chiffon Gown from Chic and Curvy Boutique. It isn’t even on the site yet in this particular color but store owner, Melissa, let me get first dibs on it. This dress is what you would really call “Gone With the Wind Fabulous”. It is totally sheer except for a white half slip that is made into the bottom skirt portion of the dress. But I wore a black half-slip over top of that white portion so that the white slip wouldn’t show. I would suggest going a size down in this gown because it does seem to run full. I had to add a similar coral colored camisole underneath due to the breast opening being very wide. But that was no biggie, I could’ve just added a large broach or pin and made it work too. The cami is by Ashley Stewart and when they go on sale I would suggest racking up on them in all colors like I did. I believe I only paid around $3.50 for it. This chiffon dress is such a standout all on its own that the only jewelry needed is a large statement necklace. I added a brown jewel tone necklace and earring set and kept my shoes neutral in a pair of Bakers fleshtone pumps. The dress also comes in Mint Green, Black and White in sizes 1X-3X and runs around $100, but is on sale TODAY for only $84.15. So as I go chow down on this pot roast, spaghetti, rolls and more, ladies take a break out of your day to do a little something for yourself for Mother’s Day….go online shopping!!!

Last night Karla Erandeni was crowned as Mujer Actitud 2013. Mujer Actitud which means bold women in spanish is a beauty pageant in Mexico, the very first one in the country exclusively dedicated  to plus size women.  This pageant was an idea of the brilliant and very talented Photographer Adrián Zërmend sick and tired to see only one kind of beauty in fashion and the media.

“Beauty doesn´t come in one size, and everybody no mater how thin or plus is, have the right to be or not on the industry” a strong and powerful statement Adrián repeat over and over again to whoever ask him why he started with this project.

I´m not a pshyquic but I´ve been on this industry for almost 17 years and I recognise talent when I see it. This will be one of many other projects oriented to the plus size community from Mexico leaded by Adrian, and we will support all of them in Skorch Magazine.

Congratulations Karla, you have a huge responsibility over your shoulders now, you represent every single plus size women in the World, but specially Latinas.

Best of luck on this amazing adventure that has started for you.

Is not a secret for those who know this Industry that Puerto Rico and Brazil are the 2 top countries in Latinamerica when it comes to plus size modelling, beauty pageants and other activities related to the plus size community, growing to the speed of the light.

New and fresh faces are starting to get know and one of those is Psychologist  Marayadira Mangual Fornes who participated in the Miss Bold and Beautiful Beauty Pageant  and won last year one of the titles of this great pageant, as Miss Puerto Rico Bold and Beautiful Top Model 2012

She was a big eye opener for me. “How come the petite plus industry is not that developed worldwide?” She ask me this once and was good enough to make me understand that not only she was right but also we need it to do something about it.

And we are working on that at the moment, showing  from Latinamerica to the World that not only size doesn´t matter, but height either.

In keeping up with my “Suit & Tie” theme, today I rocked another black and white look. I had a photoshoot to do and once I finished with that, I changed into this kinda sporty suit look. When Macy’s had their one-day sale a couple of weeks ago I racked up on spring items in all of the new trends. I scored this Black and White Asymmetrical Hem Jacket for only $10.99 and also the Flower Mix Shirt for just $12.99. I was glad the jacket had a white trim on both the front and back to match with these BLACK AND WHITE PANEL TROUSERS from Simply Be ($58). To top it all off I added a pair of 6″ Tuxedo Open Toe Ankle Bootie w/ Pleat Satin Panel Bow ($55.99, Sizes 6-12) that I first wore here. Gotta kinda toot my own horn here, after looking at the pics, I’m loving this look and the new hairdo adds a classy appeal to it. 

 As soon as I heard that new song and then saw the video by Justin Timberlake & Jay-Z I was inspired to do a post wearing a black & white suit. Being that black and white is the top trend at the moment it wasn’t hard for me to find an outfit choice. I’m wearing a black and white suit jacket by Jessica London for One Stop Plus, Graphic Stripe Blouse and white bootcut pants, $45, both by Simply Be. The jacket was purchased a couple of years ago but as you can see, I made a suit out of mixing old & new, different brands and assorted pieces. I have been wishing for a pair of  bootcut dress pants that would fall just right over my heels. This 34in pair is just right with my 5’9 frame. Not too short nor dragging the ground in my high heels. Now ladies as always I have to give styling tips with this outfit. When wearing all white pants always wear black undergarments. If you have cellulite on the back of your legs or just don’t wanna jiggle, opt for a black high-waist shaper or footless shaper both by Spanx for a smooth look under your garments. 

To break up the monochromatic look a bit I added my new outlet find of the Kate Spade Alexander Avenue Bag. When I went to Williamsburg a few weeks ago I copped this baby on a helluva deal. It retails for $455 but was outlet priced at $369 and that day I went it was an additional 60% off. Woohoooo, who doesn’t like a designer bag at a discount of only $150 with tax. (Now if you want this bag also try looking on Ebay and Google for discount prices if you aren’t near an outlet). The bag is called the Catalina green shade in ostrich but is right on point since Emerald Green is the color of the year. 

 

I woke up at the crack of dawn today to attend Easter Sunrise Service at church. I had been waiting until today to break out this new reasonable find from blogger/designer Shauna Miller of Penny Chic. I first told you all about her new little black dress collection for Wal-Mart here and now all of the styles are available in plus-sizes. But the best part of all is the fact that the dresses are only $20 each. That’s right, you read me right. I’m wearing the Utility Dress, Sizes 1X-4X. It’s also classified as the cap sleeve dress with pockets. That’s what originally drew me to this dress the most were the pockets on both sides. I easily stored my cell phone and keys in the pockets without a noticable buldge.

When I first saw the dress online I instantly thought “Audrey Hepburn”. So I added a large pearl necklace (Banana Republic, $39), pearl belt (Dots, $8), houndstooth jacket (Michael Kors, $129) and Black & White Mossimo® Pearlynn Chunky Peep Toe Heels, $29.99, Sizes 5.5-11. The dress is made of a polyester/spandex blend so there is stretch in it but I would suggest just going up one size. Mine rose up a little as I walked but I like this style so much I’m just gonna reorder it again in a larger size. At this price I’m not losing and you can get the whole collection for $100 and have a true LBD selection for your wardrobe.
