These Plus Size Babes Shut Down Body Shaming on Television

It’s a shame to think that in 2017 there are still shows airing on television that mock the size and weight of a character.  It’s not humorous to disparage a plus size person in a storyline. It’s flat out body shaming! Television is such a powerful media outlet that easily shapes the views of its audience. And these types of negative wisecracks ultimately go unnoticed because society has led us to believe that this is acceptable behavior.

But when these popular television shows body shamed their characters, these amazing body positive warriors clapped back…hard. They are dispelling body shaming myths and proving that plus size bodies aren’t meant to be the butt of the joke.

As much as I love the television show “Friends” nothing makes me cringe more than the “Fat Monica” character. Courtney Cox in a fat suit, constantly being made fun of and always holding food. Fat Monica would wiggle and move to the music— then fall to a chair, out of breath.

I can only hope that the writers of the show weren’t implying that plus size people can’t dance. Because @curveswithmoves sure can shake it! This swurvy chick with curvy hips is a dancer who can move her plus size body to any beat.

A scene from the show “Married with Children” plays as follows. A plus size woman enters a shoe store “Excuse me, do you have any pumps in my size?” The woman asks. To which the character, and shoe salesperson, Al Bundy replies: “Yes I do, but the society for the prevention of cruelty to shoes would not allow me to sell them to you.”

An absolute jaw dropper! This scene is appalling. Where was the writer’s morality? It’s a good thing that @oashleex is proving to us all that plus size women can absolutely rock heels! She is looking confident sultry, yet sweet in her pumps.

Gilmore Girls even displays unnecessary body shaming in an episode where Lorelai and Rory are sitting pool side, and two plus size men with exposed stomachs pass by. Lorelai feels the need to whisper, “Belly alert!” Rory chimes in with “Holy moly,” as if she’s never seen a plus size tummy before.

Thank goodness @iam_adydelv is showing the world that the pool is no place for judgment. He’s flaunting his bod and letting us know that the only alert needed is a “Fabulous alert!’

And finally in a scene from the show Roseanne, Jackie imitates their mother: “OH ROSEAAAAANNE! A woman of your size shouldn’t wear horizontal stripes, you should wear black, or stay home!”

@mustangsallytwo doesn’t seem to be too bothered in her beautiful striped dress. She is looking carefree, and is always inspiring other plus size women to wear what makes them feel comfortable!

@glamghoul should be wearing black? I don’t think so. This bright bathing suit looks amazing! She’s showing plus size babes everywhere that the colors we wear can be as bright as our futures!

And then there’s me @pureplusfashion. Should I just take the advice and stay home? NOPE! I’ll be joining these body positive warriors, living the best life I can live, and continuing to help advocate for all plus size bodies!
