Throw Back Plus Size Styles With a Modern Twist

Let’s face it, what’s out usually comes back in. Being born in the 90’s, I would have never thought platform sneakers, chokers and jelly bracelets would make a come back. But here I am soaking in all of that nostalgia, and living for my childhood favourites. In fashion, trends will always cycle. And there’s nothing wrong with that! Some trends come back because they work. Take a peek at these plus size babes who are making past trends work in the present.

1950s: I sported this fifties inspired outfit and have never felt prettier! Even using modern day articles, you can capture any era. @pureplusfashion

1960s: I’m not sure if it’s the font on @modachrome‘s bathing suit or the whimsical nature of this photo, but it throws off some serious sixties vibes!

1970s: This entire look by @marshmallowkewpie makes me think she should be hanging out in Eric Forman’s basement. It just screams seventies! “Not a thing to do, but talk to you.”

1980s: @jamie_jetaime is serving some eighties style! I’m feeling this look. It’s a mix of “Wet Hot American Summer” and “gym uniform chic”. So many aspects of this outfit inspire me!

1990s: This look by @hentai.hunny embodies the nineties. A grunge feel, iconic geometric accessories and, of course, a choker to top it all off! This style gives me all the feels!

2000s: @heavylikeawitch has that Y2K style down pat! I feel like this is a mix of modern day and something I would have worn in my tweens. Trends tend to cycle every twenty years. Buckles and metallics are already making their way back in. Get ready for trends of the 2000s!

There’s nothing more refreshing than women who experiment with fashion! I hope these plus size beauties and their throwback styles have inspired you as much as they’ve inspired me.
